(March 11, 2020) As most retirees are likely aware by now, they are vulnerable to uncertain outcomes if exposed to the Coronavirus, especially if suffering from other underlying medical conditions. PERI is closely monitoring the actions and recommendations of our elected and public health officials as they do their best to develop and execute plans to contain the outbreak.
As an association that encompasses 11 districts and more than 88 active local chapters across Ohio, we do not want our members to be placed in harm’s way by attending meetings in which they may be in close quarters and potentially exposed to the virus. We have reached out to the Ohio Department of Health to consult with them regarding the appropriateness of conducting our normal chapter and district meetings in the wake of this public health emergency. Once we receive clear guidance from ODH, we will quickly communicate our decision regarding the status of meetings with our leadership and members.
In the meantime, PERI suggests you decide individually whether you feel comfortable enough to attend chapter meetings. Additionally, we highly recommend that you click on the link here from the Centers for Disease Control https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html to learn more about the risk Coronavirus poses to our elderly population and what you can do to protect yourself.
Again, PERI will quickly communicate with our membership on the future status of chapter and district meetings as soon as we complete our consultation with the Ohio Department of Health.
