(March 23, 2020) PERI has received a number of calls from members concerned that with the current economic uncertainty and shelter-in-place orders that OPERS’ benefit payments may not be made in April. OPERS has advised us that despite these uncertainties, benefit payments will be made on time. It is important to remember that through the Depression, World War 2, many recessions and health emergencies, OPERS has never missed a benefit payment. These are truly unique times that we are experiencing now but rest assured that your retirement system is with you and will continue to serve your needs.
If you need to contact OPERS, their call center remains open and available to answer your questions. You can reach them at (800) 222-7377. We recommend that if you do call, please listen to the entire recording and leave your name and phone number at that time. For the time being, OPERS will not be taking live calls as they come in due to the mechanics of their call center representatives working remotely. They will gladly call you back as soon as possible.
